How come channel 7 and channel 9 show similar (read exactly same) news content? Do they exchange notes the previous night and agree to show the similar things?

Today both the channels showed the similar news of how matt damon was spotted in ekka, and then about INXS among other contents. And this is not just today but every single day. Is this a common knowledge which I’m not aware about?

One correction: My question was not about the type, quality or the nature of the content but more in regards to the timing as in how can two different channels show the same thing at “exactly the same time”?! Even if they’re picking up stuffs from press release and reditt, it takes time to prepare the segments which can only be done the previous day or at least a few hours in advance, so it just can’t be a coincidence that both the channels happen to telecast the same/similar segment at exactly the same time. ( eg today they both showed vale Michael parkinson segment at the same time). But anyway it was provided by that they both follow the same template and try to stick to same ad timings as well which explains why these commercial tv channels are no different to each other)

C9N literally just ran a segment comparing a basket of goods from Coles with Woolies. When did prime time news become a consumer affair outlet? What is left for ACA and Today/Tonight to cover?

I remember watching a media watch episode last year I think and one of the news segments (don't remember which channel it was) was literally them just reading the coles catalogue, coles says they didn't ask or pay them to they just did it.

I genuinely know nothing about it. Is it conservative/liberal. A reliable news source? Impartial? etc?

It's conservative/catholic and is about as reliable as any news source run by a former senior government minister could be expected to be.
